The Kia and Hyundai long warranty doesn’t mean a damn thing if you don’t do the required maintenance like timing belts at intervals, coolant changes, LOF, etc. That belt change can be as low as 37.5k miles in what they consider severe conditions. We have a Kia dealership in the auto group where I work. I’ve heard a service writer inform a customer because of non-performed work that the required repairs weren’t covered. Its amazing how many people don’t read the fine print.

I thought it was against the law to require the customer to pay for any maintenance at the dealer to keep a warranty in good standing? Maybe it varies by state, but I once read that a dealer can only require you to perform maintenance at the dealer to keep a warranty valid if said maintenance was at no cost to the customer.

I could be wrong but idk.

Warranty covers manufacturing and assembly defects not maintenance. The timing belt is considered a wear item like your motor oil, filters, wiper blades , drive belts and brakes. If you notice that 100k is for powertrain only. Many other items are covered for a shorter time period bumper to bumper. Its best to read the fine print and have some reading comprehension. They will only warranty defects in engine, suspension and transmission as long as all required maintenance have been performed at the required service intervals. Miss one interval and they can deny fixing it under warranty. Notice the word LIMITED in the warranty line. Here is last years 60k drivetrain warranty. A pdf of this years isn’t out there yet.

If you read this last one click on the 100k warranty. They specify under normal conditions and maintenance. Theres the catch.

“Buy a Hyundai or get shredder by a rock crusher!” You have to admit it’s an effective ad strategy.
